HOSTING A WORKSHOP

Thinking about HOSTING A WORKSHOP???

If you would like to host a workshop, here are some general requirements. These suggestions are a basic guideline. Each situation is different, depending on the location, and season.

Venue:

In Winter, a medium to large size indoor studio with concrete, tile or other suitable surface with heat and water is necessary for winter workshops. A heat source is needed to keep warm and make the experience more enjoyable.

In the Summer, work area needs to have shade and out of the wind (tempature control). The class can be held indoors or out. Electricity and water sorce is needed.

Some mediums require a mixing area because it can gets messy. Tarps or drop cloths can be laid down to protect the area. Sturdy workbenches and tables.

Some sculpture mediums take a few days to dry and need to be left in place, until dry enough to move. If working with such a medium, there needs to be a place, where students may leave their work for a few days until it’s safe for them to move their sculpture.

Number of Students:

For most workshops a minimum number of 6 people and maximum of 10, is good.

Length of Workshop:

Workshops can run from a day to multiple days depending on the workshop. The host provides coffee/tea, water and simple snacks. Students bring their own lunch.

Student Responsibility

Students should be prepared for outdoor class sessions by wearing weather appropriate protection (including weather changes), such as sun hats, jacket and sunscreen.

Costs:

The host does the organizing and promoting. The teaching fee, depending on the location, duration and time of year of the workshop.

Sometimes Materials are extra and need to be covered by the participants as individuals make sculptures in a range of sizes. Materials costs range depending on the size and materials used for the sculpture/art, the price increases for larger pieces.

In addition, if being paid a teaching wage, most facilities and art school organizations cover travel costs, meals and accommodation.
