Featured artist on the D.I.Y. Network T.V. show Turf Wars, episode “Catfish Haven vs. Bachelor Crib.” Episode DTWR-211H
About the Show:
Neighbors battle to win $10,000 and the title of the best yard on the block by Ahmed Hassan. Two teams, each led by Ahmed's landscape experts, use the same batch of materials and the same time frame to transform their yards into spectacular outdoor spaces. Ahmed is there offering advice, constructively criticizing, and at times jumping in to help. In the end, Ahmed (with input from other neighbors) decides who got the better result, but viewers get to see two amazing transformations.
"Let the battle begin! Team One totally decks out their overgrown yard and adds a lavish new sustainable pond to the space. Plus, existing decks get a new look with stain and plants. And DARJIT, an architectural sculpting compound, brings a soft organic look to concrete block. Then on Team Two, this bachelor's yard goes from blank to swank with a metal-based bar and granite countertop. But a rustic corrugated metal water feature balances a masculine look with a romantic feel. And finishing things off, the broken concrete patio is not removed but given a fresh look with concrete overlayed on top that's stamped to look new again."

The Darjit Wall at the Deck Planter
This feature was created by a direct application of Darjit to a latex bonding adhesive treated concrete block wall. Jennifer obtained the final texture on this application by imprinting large plant leaves to the wet surface.

The Sunflower
This feature was created utilizing an application of Darjit over a metal armature. Beginning with a found metal circular object, hand formed petals were attached using Tye wire and plastic zip ties. The petals were formed by cutting pieces of expanded metal lath. The lath was then folded several times to achieve a stronger working platform. The pieces were then bent and shaped to the desired size. Careful attention was paid to the size of the armature to accommodate the bulk of the finished product. The flower head armature was then attached to the stalk, which was created by using a 1 1/2" steel pipe. Three pieces of rebar were bent and welded to the pipe to create the neck of the stalk. The leaves on the sunflower where created by using expanded metal lath in the similar process as the flower petals. These leaves were then attached to rebar that was welded to the metal pipe stalk.

The Application
Mixing the Darjit to the specified instructions, the Darjit was applied in progressive coats. The first coat, traditionally called a scratch coat was applied by hand. The scratch coat is left with a rough texture to receive the successive coats.
The Darjit Tree Root Bench
The root feature on the back of the bench was created by attaching a hand formed expanded metal lathe armature to a concrete block wall, built to the height of a bench. The armature was attached to the wall utilizing Tapcon masonry anchor screws. The rest of the bench was brushed with an application of latex bonding adhesive. Darjit then was directly added to the treated block wall surface and armature to achieve the final texture and shape.
